Burritt

Having performed
on four continents and in nearly forty states, Michael Burritt
is one of the world's leading percussion soloists. Acclaimed
for his virtuosity and compelling artistry, he is in frequent
demand for concerts throughout North America, Europe, Asia and
Australia. Mr. Burritt presented his New York debut in Weill
Hall at Carnegie Hall in 1992 and his London debut at Queen Elizabeth
Hall in 1998. He has appeared as concerto soloist with the Omaha
Symphony, Dallas Wind Symphony, Chautauqua Festival Orchestra
and the Eastman Wind ensemble among others, and as guest artist
with Ju Percussion Group (Taiwan), Percussion Art Quartet (Germany),
Amores Percussion Group (Spain), Global Percussion Network (Sweden)
and the Tempus Fugit Percussion Ensemble (USA). He has also
been a featured artist at seven Percussive Arts Society International
Conventions. Mr. Burritt's solo recordings are comprised of
original works as well as compositions written expressly for
him.
An active composer,
Mr. Burritt has two concertos to his credit, the most recent
having received its American premier in 2005, and its European
premiere in Paris in the fall of 2006. He has written numerous
solo and chamber works for marimba and percussion including two
books of etudes.
His works for
solo marimba have become standard repertoire for the instrument
and consistently appear on required repertoire lists for international
competitions. Mr. Burritt is also an artist/'clinician and product
design consultant for Malletech, with whom he has developed his
own line of signature marimba mallets and is an artist/educational
clinician with the Zildjian Company.
Michael Burritt
is Professor of Percussion and Director of the Percussion Department
at the Eastman School of Music. He held the same position at
Northwestern University from 1995-2008. Mr. Burritt received
his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees, as well as the prestigious
Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. His
teachers have included John Beck, Gordon Stout, Paul Yancich
and Herbert Flower. |
